Volunteer at GBT Irkutsk
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the office. With the exception of a skeleton, permanent paid crew, the GBT offices are staffed by volunteers, both Russian and foreign. Volunteers have stayed for as little as a few weeks and as long as 9 months. Some have worked full time; others only a few hours a week. Many volunteer as part of a project for college, but others do not.
Projects for volunteers are varied and usually tailored to the volunteer's interests and skills. Many translate. Others develop websites (this site was developed entirely by a long-term American volunteer). Some develop and run educational projects for children. A few teach English. Many research and write articles. Still others organize the weekly trail club. In the spring and summer, everyone helps prepare the trail projects.
Etc.
GBT organizers help foreign volunteers find accommodation a nd get settled into town.
Knowledge of Russian is helpful but not necessary. Volunteers should speak either Russian or English fluently -- speaking both is helpful. Knowledge of other language (especially German) may be handy but is not necessary
