Everyone needs a habitat -- Renovating the GBT office (November 2003)
For most of 2003, our office was not in the best shape. The holes in the flooring were probably the most amusing part, although
it's probably fortunate that we don't have any pictures of the walls. The windows were drafty and we had to go about in heavy coats during the winter. In short, it wasn't the best place to work.
Your favorite webmaster had just arrived, ready to save Baikal, when he was told his first job would be
renovating the office. We started that weekend. The ceiling was repainted.
This meant a lot of falling paint. I was given a special hat.
The furniture was all
collected in the middle of the room and covered with our old drapes (new drapes were deparately needed). In this picture, the old wallpaper has already been torn down; it didn't look quite that bad before the renovation.
The biggest
job was, of course, repapering the walls. Everyone helped out with that.

Here we would like to thank everyone who helped out with the renovation. Most of them were friends and family -- not just the people who work here.

Work ran all day, several days. Here's our lunch table.
For cutting the wallpaper, we washed off a section of the hallway. Here's our fearless leader, showing us how it's done.

Once we get a working computer with a USB port, I'll put up a picture or two of our new and improved office. In the meantime, you can support our laptop fund here. (PS Since only a tiny fraction of the funds raised by FGBT can be used for administrative costs such as buying laptops ... donate a lot!)
